WHAT WE TREAT

Trauma Changes You. Healing Is Still Possible.

Experiencing trauma does not mean you have PTSD. But when the effects of trauma persist and begin to disrupt your daily life, you deserve proper evaluation and compassionate, evidence-based care.

WHAT IS TRAUMA AND PTSD

Not Everyone Who Experiences Trauma Develops PTSD.

Trauma refers to an experience or series of experiences that overwhelm a person’s ability to cope. Traumatic events can include assault, accidents, natural disasters, combat, childhood abuse, medical emergencies, or witnessing harm to others.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a clinical condition that can develop when the psychological effects of trauma persist, intensify, and begin to significantly impair daily functioning. Not everyone who experiences trauma will develop PTSD. Biological, social, and personal factors all play a role in who is most affected.

At Access Alliance, we provide a safe, non-judgmental space to evaluate your experience, clarify your diagnosis, and build a care plan that meets you where you are.

TYPE 01

Acute Stress Disorder: Intense stress symptoms lasting three days to one month following a traumatic event. Can be a precursor to PTSD if left untreated.

TYPE 02

PTSD: Symptoms persisting more than one month after trauma exposure, causing significant distress or functional impairment across multiple areas of life.

TYPE 03

Complex PTSD (C-PTSD): Develops from prolonged, repeated trauma such as childhood abuse or domestic violence. Includes core PTSD symptoms plus difficulties with emotional regulation, identity, and relationships.

TYPE 04

Adjustment Disorder with Trauma: When responses to a stressful or traumatic event cause clinically significant distress but do not fully meet PTSD criteria. Still warrants evaluation and care.

Symptoms and How It Shows Up

Recognizing Insomnia in Daily Life.

Insomnia is more than lying awake at night. Its effects spill into every waking hour in ways that are easy to attribute to other causes.

Nightmares and broken sleep

Waking repeatedly from distressing dreams about the trauma, often feeling disoriented, fearful, or unable to return to sleep.

Flashbacks out of nowhere

Sudden, vivid memories that make the traumatic event feel like it is happening right now, triggered by a sound, smell, image, or situation.

~

Avoiding people, places, and situations

Refusing to drive after an accident, avoiding crowded spaces, turning off news, or staying home rather than face anything that recalls the trauma.

Always feeling on guard

Sitting with your back to the wall, jumping at sudden sounds, scanning rooms for threats, or a persistent sense that something bad is about to happen.

Feeling numb or disconnected

Going through daily life feeling detached, like you are watching yourself from a distance, or unable to feel joy, love, or connection with people around you.

Irritability and outbursts

Snapping at loved ones without understanding why, losing your temper over small things, or feeling a constant low-level anger that was not there before.

HOW WE EVALUATE & TREAT

Trauma-Informed Care. At Your Pace.

Our approach to PTSD evaluation and treatment is built on safety, trust, and collaboration. We never push you to revisit trauma before you are ready and we never minimize what you have been through.

Treatment is coordinated across psychiatric medication management and evidence-based trauma therapies, tailored to the type and complexity of trauma you have experienced.

  • \Trauma-informed psychiatric evaluation

A careful clinical interview conducted at your pace, covering your symptoms, history, and the impact trauma has had on your daily functioning and relationships.

  • \Accurate diagnosis and differentiation

PTSD is frequently confused with depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. We take time to arrive at an accurate diagnosis before recommending any treatment.

  • \Evidence-based therapy

We provide CPT trauma therapy and Prolonged Exposure, the two most evidence-supported treatments for PTSD.

  • \Medication management

We prescribe and monitor carefully based on your individual needs.

  • \Ongoing support and adjustment

Regular check-ins to track progress, adjust medications, and coordinate with therapists to ensure your care evolves with your recovery.
