WHAT IS ADHD
More Than Difficulty Paying Attention.
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how the brain regulates attention, impulse control, and activity levels. It’s not a character flaw, a lack of effort, or a parenting issue,it’s a real, well-documented condition with effective treatments.
ADHD can look very different depending on the person, their age, and the environment they’re in. That’s why accurate diagnosis matters and why we take a careful, individualized approach to every evaluation.
TYPE 01
Predominantly Inattentive
Difficulty sustaining focus, following through on tasks, and staying organized often missed because it doesn’t involve hyperactivity or disruptive behavior.
TYPE 02
Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive
Restlessness, impulsive decision-making, and difficulty waiting — more visible, but often misunderstood as a behavioral problem rather than a neurological one.
TYPE 03
Combined Presentation
Features of both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive types — the most commonly diagnosed presentation in both children and adults.
Symptoms & How It Shows Up
Recognizing ADHD in Real Life.
ADHD rarely looks like the textbook description. Here are the real ways it tends to show up in the classroom, at work, and in daily life.
Difficulty sustaining focus
Losing track mid-task, zoning out during conversations, or struggling to finish what you start.
Impulsivity
Acting or speaking without thinking, interrupting others, or making quick decisions that don’t serve you.
Disorganization
Missed deadlines, lost items, cluttered spaces, not laziness, but a genuine difficulty managing executive functions.
Hyperactivity & restlessness
Fidgeting, inability to sit still, or a constant internal sense of being “on” even when the situation calls for calm.
Emotional dysregulation
Low frustration tolerance, mood swings, or feeling overwhelmed by situations others seem to handle easily.
Relationship & social challenges
Forgetting commitments, talking over others, or struggling to follow through — leading to friction in relationships.
HOW WE EVALUATE & TREAT
A Thorough Process. A Personalized Plan.
ADHD is frequently misdiagnosed or missed entirely. Our evaluation process is thorough by design, ruling out other conditions and building a complete picture before any treatment is recommended.
Treatment at Access Alliance goes beyond a prescription. We build care plans that fit your life and we stay involved as things change.
- \Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation
A detailed clinical interview covering symptoms, personal history, functioning at school or work, and any contributing factors.
- \Ruling out other conditions
Anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, and trauma can all mimic ADHD. We take time to differentiate so the diagnosis is accurate.
- \Personalized treatment planning
May include medication management, lifestyle recommendations, and coordination with therapists or schools when appropriate.
- \Ongoing follow-up & adjustment
Regular check-ins to evaluate how treatment is working and make adjustments as your needs evolve over time.
